Will Judy of Chicago and native of Garrett died Dec. 27, 1973, at the age of 82, following a brief illness. He was born in Garrett Sept. 20, 1891, a son of the late Jerome and Barbara (Burkholder) Judy. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. He is survived by wife, Ruth, of Chicago, and brother, Richard, of Foley, Alabama, and three nieces and a nephew of Garrett. Memorial service was held in Chicago. His hometown folks only recently learned of his death. "Dog World" Captain Judy was editor, publisher and owner of Dog World Magazine for 38 years. Will Judy was recognized as an author, authority and expert throughout the canine world. Columnist, radio and TV personality, he was a well-known figure at dog shows, nationwide. A native of Garrett and a graduate of Juniata College, Capt. Judy spent most of his life, following his military service, in the Chicago area. He was a member of the North Shore Post of the American Legion and Post Commander. He was also a pat president of the Sons of the Revolution of the Illinois Chapter. Judge of Dogs He was an international Judge of dog shows and judged many times in Africa, Australia, Ireland, Venezuela, Italy and Spain. He judged the first dog shows in Alaska and Puerto Rico and was the founder of National Dog Week. He was a member of the "Old Timers of the Kennel World." Capt. Judy came back to his hometown and was sponsor of the Garrett homecoming, which began in 1945. He wanted to do something for his hometown friends. He assumed sponsorship until 1960.
