  KARAT
  
  Herbert R. Kabat, 72, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., formerly of Somerset,
  died Jan. 10, 1990.  He was a 1934 graduate of Somerset High School and
  graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and Stanford University.  He is
  survived by his wife, Lillian; four daughters and two sons; brother, Robert
  Kabat, Alexandria, Va.; sister Dorothy Kirby, Washington, D.C., and five
  grandchildren.  He taught physics for 38 years at California Polytechnic
  State University.  Contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy,
  1815 Lynn St., Arlington, VA 22209.
