John Kalaha Jr., 85, Stoystown, died Feb. 21, 2004, at Meadow View Nursing Center, Berlin. Born Dec. 23, 1918, in Central City, son of John B. Sr. and Ann Kalaha. Preceded in death by parents, stepmother, Mary Kalaha, brother, William George Kalaha and daughter-in-law Jackie Ann (Smith) Kalaha. Survived by wife of 58 years, the former Emily Trexel; children, Mary Ann, married to David Marker of Garrett, Roger, married to the former Sharon Heist of LaPlata, Md., John, married to the former Carol Smith of Fairhope and Susan, married to Edward Stoecker of Rector; grandchildren: Jeffrey, Brian, and Scott Marker, Christopher Kalaha, Travis and Chad Barron, Chad, Matthew and Kimberly Kalaha; great-grandchildren: Matthew, Anne Marie, Madeline, Samuel and Eric Marker, Michael and Stephanie Barron and god child, Ann Houston. He was a special "pa" to Becky and Emily Armstrong. Brother of Mary Ferko of Central City, Ann LaBarko, Mary Walkowski, and Margaret Younker, all of Johnstown, and Catherine Brunst of Nevada. World War II Army Veteran. Retired from PBS Coals. Member of Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown, New Baltimore Sportsmens Club, Buckeye Hunting Club and Stoystown Lions Club. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Walter L. Startzel officiating. Interment, Brotherton Pike Cemetery. Lions service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
