He was born April 15, 1916, in Melcroft, a son of the late Andrew Payne and Sarah Elizabeth Caton Kalp. He was a resident of Melcroft all his life. Prior to his retirement he was a coal miner for Eastern Gas and Fuel Co. in Melcroft. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Saltlick Twp., Fayette County. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by grandson, Keith Kalp, in 1980 and 5 sisters - Wilma Kalp, Velva Waltz, Jenny White, Ida Brown and Clara Stahl. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lucille Ritenour Kalp; 2 sons - Robert Kalp of Donegal and Dale Kalp of Greensburg; 3 daughters - Mrs. Laird (Virginia) May of Mill Run, Mrs. Helen Winters of Somerset and Mrs. Valjean (Ethel) Monticue of Greensburg; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; 3 brothers - Caton Kalp of Jones Mills, Jesse Kalp of Acme RD and William Kalp of Rockwood, and 3 sisters - Mrs. Lulu Stahl of Somerset, Mrs. Edna Ritenour of Melcroft and Mrs. Albert (Flossie) Musgrove of Greensburg. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 11 am. until 2 p.m. Sunday, the hour of service in the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home Inc., Rt. 711, Melcroft, with the Rev. Gale Boocks officiating. Interment will follow in the Donegal Cemetery. Daily American, July 9, 1993 [K0046]
