Kaltenbaugh, 43, Kaltenbaugh Farm, Jenner Township, died unexpectedly Aug. 25, 2008, at home. Born Jan. 10, 1965, in Johnstown, son of Daniel E. Sr. and Joan J. (Horwat) Kaltenbaugh. Preceded in death by father, Jan. 31, 1989; and sister, Dana Buchanan, May 12, 1989. Survived by mother, Kaltenbaugh Farm; wife and soul mate of 14 years, Michelle L. Carpenter; and children, Matthew Kaltenbaugh, Florida; and Jessica Kaltenbaugh, at home. Brother of Daniel E. Kaltenbaugh Jr., married to Roz Strasiser, New Philadelphia, Ohio; Christian F. Kaltenbaugh, married to Rhonda Shearer, Erie; Stephen A. Kaltenbaugh, married to Lisa Buratty, Friedens; and Brian Kreger, married to Kristy Miller, Berlin; mother and father-in-law, Theresa (Soha) and Gary Carpenter, Jenner Crossroads; sisters-in-law, Kristi and Jessica Carpenter; nieces and nephews, Randy, Danny, Brittany, Mitchell, Hannah and Caden Kaltenbaugh; and Kaulten and Alana Kreger; best friend, Tony Strasiser, married to Lisa Lazzari, and their three sons, Max, T. and Gus; and numerous other relatives and friends. A 1983 graduate of North Star High School, where he excelled in football and wrestling and was North Star's first Pennsylvania state wrestling champion. Attended Shippensburg University, where he also played football and wrestled and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. Specialist E-4 U.S. Army veteran, serving as a combat medic during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and was awarded two Bronze Stars. Member of All Saints Catholic Parish; Jerome Post 802, American Legion; and North Star Wrestling Boosters. Volunteer coach for North Star Junior High wrestling program. Loved the outdoors, especially when fishing and hunting and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Had been an ophthalmic surgical technician and also managed Black Timber Outfitters. Viewing from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 3 p.m. Friday. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Church, Boswell, where military honors will be accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard, the Rev. Father Justin A. Ratajczak, OFM Conv., celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorials to North Star Wrestling Boosters, 411 Ohio St., Boswell, PA 15531, to establish a scholarship fund would be appreciated.
