Mrs. Karas was born in Goodtown (Pine Hill) on Sept. 27, 1908, to Catherine (Minko) and Vasyl Nider. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Karas; and a dear nephew, George Ralston. Mrs. Karas is survived by a son and daughter-in law, Nicholas and Shirley Karas, Orient Point, N.Y.; a daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Joseph Tiesi, Binghamton; five grandsons: Kenneth, Karas, Belize, Mexico; Steven and his wife, Mary Beth, Karas and Michael Karas, all of New York City; Michael Tiesi, Omaha, Neb.; and William and his wife, Heather Tiesi of Minneapolis, Minn.; and four great-granddaughters: Sara and Paige Tiesi and Madeline and Katie Karas. He is also survived by four sisters: Catherine Ralson, Binghamton; Martha Nedrow, Berlin; Stella Fisher, Fort Myers, Fla; and Rose Ann Custer, Baltimore, Md.; two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Andrew and Dorothy Nider, Rochester, N.Y.; Michael and Pauline Nider, Meyersdale; and Mary Nider, Binghamton; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Karas, a retired employee of Dunn-McCarthy, was a member of St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church. Funeral services were held Aug. 24 at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home and St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church, where the Very Rev. James Dutko celebrated a divine liturgy.
