Kauffman, 61, of Soap Hollow Road, Johnstown, died April 21, 1998, at his home. Born Aug. 14, 1936, at Thomas Mills, the son of Ernest W. and Leora (Alwine) Kauffman. Preceded in death by parents, infant daughter Dorcas Ann. Survived by his wife of 40 years, the former Erma Yoder, and these children: Ricky Kauffman, at home; Donna, wife of Timothy Speigle, Boswell; Elaine, wife of Kurt Horst, Somerset; grandchildren: Hannah, Joseph and Leah Speigle, Michael, Rebekah and Mark Horst; a brother, Dwight Kauffman and wife Joyce, and sister Joyce, wife of Dorsey Thomas, both of Soap Hollow. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Former carpenter with over 40 years service at Moxham Lumber Co., Johnstown. He was an avid participant in the Farmers and Threshermen's Jubilee, New Centerville, and also various other steam engine festivals. Lifelong member of Thomas Mennonite Church, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, with Rev. Elvin Holsopple and Wayne Lasure officiating. Remains will lie in state from 9 a.m. Friday until time of service. Viewing and visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Kaufman Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall located off Miller-Picking Road, Route 403, Davidsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Regional Hospice of Windber. Arrangements by the William Kisiel Funeral Home, Windber. Florists may deliver flowers directly to the Kaufman Mennonite Church lower level after 10 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Daily American, April 22, 1998 [K0105]
