Kaufman, 80, of Somerset, formerly of Confluence and Lehigh Acres, Fla. died at his home June 19, 2003. Born Sept. 10, 1922 in Davidsville. Proceeded in death by his parents, Lemon Kore and Wilma Catherine (Bowman) Kaufman; his wife, the former Betty Romesburg, and an infant daughter. Survived by son, Dr. Donald R. Kaufman, married to the former Joslyn Martin, of Somerset, and a daughter, Beth Ann Laskey of Mansfield, Ohio. Three grandchildren, Cathy and Jason Kaufman and Matthew Toney, and brothers, William K., Fred M., and Harold D. Kaufman, all of Rockwood; E. Charles Kaufman of Somerset, Ray L. Kaufman of Chambersburg; one sister, Doris M. Yoder of Hollsopple, numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Ann Brocht of Somerset. Member of First United Methodist Church, Somerset, Meyersdale Masonic Lodge 554, Past Most Wise Master, Chapter of Rose Croix, Harrisburg Consistory, Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh. Was received as an honorary member of Supreme Council, 33rd degree in 1977. Member of American Legion, VFW, past president and director of Somerset County Industrial Development Council and Authority, past director and president of Turkeyfoot Valley School Board, past director of Somerset County Vo-Tech School, past director of Tableland Community Assoc. and past director of the National Bank of Western Pa. Was original partner and later sole owner of Riverside Ford Sales in Confluence for 32 years. Received Ford Motor Company's Distinguished Achievement Award for 26 consecutive years. Served as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was a personal and confidential writer to Admiral John Leslie Hall, Jr., in Amphibious Operations in the African and European Theaters (Omaha Beach at Normandy) and Asiatic and Pacific Theaters. Was awarded the Bronze Star. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where a funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Patricia M. Nelson officiating. Interment at Somerset Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be given to In Touch Hospice of Somerset, 1590 N. Center Ave., Somerset, Pa. 15501.
