"Dick" Kaufman Sr., 68, Boswell RD 1, was called home to be with his Savior and Lord on Nov. 8, 1986. Born Sept. 9, 1918, in Conemaugh Township, son of Allen Webster and Annie C. (Spory) Kaufman. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Lester Ray. Survived by widow, former Reda P. Alwine; and these children: Verna J., wife of Harvey R. Horner Sr.; Rachel P., wife of I. William Horner; Richard J. Jr., married to former Marilynn Woy; Ellis J., married to former Shirleen Eash; Allen J., married to former Gloria Gindlesperger, all of Boswell RD 1; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. Brother of: Edith C., widow of William F. Geyer; Leon W., married to former Edna Alwine; and Minnie K., wife of H. Ray Gindlesperger, all of Hollsopple RD 2. Life member of Thomas Mennonite Church, where he served on church council and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Member and delegate of Milk Marketing Inc. Also member of Pennsylvania Co-op Potato Growers Association and was selected Potato King of Pennsylvania in 1969. Served 12 years on school board and 10 years as treasurer of former Johnstown Mennonite School. Celebrated 47th wedding anniversary April 8, 1986. Retired prominent Jenner Township farmer. Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell. Service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Thomas Mennonite Church, where remains will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Pastors Norman Moyer, Donald Speigle and Stanley Freed. No viewing at church. Interment, church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Somerset Community Hospital Hospice or American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
