Keim, prominent businessman and state lawmaker of Nampa, Idaho, died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 26, in a hospital in his home town Nampa, after several months' illness. He was one of the seven sons of Howard H. Keim, native of Elk Lick Township, Somerset County, Pa., and resident of Salisbury, Pa., during most of his boyhood and young manhood. Wallace Burch Keim was born March 1, 1895, on the Keim family homestead at Lagoda, Indiana, the third son of Howard H. and Emma (Harshbarger) Keim. They resided there until 1910 when the family moved to Newberg, Ore. Two years later, they moved to Bachelor's Island in the Columbia River near Vancouver, Wash., where Wallace completed high school, participating in football, basketball and track. In 1916, Wallace entered Manchester College at North Manchester, Ind. His schooling was interrupted by the call to serve in World War I as a cavalryman. At the close of the war, he was in an army officers training school at Camp Stanley, Tex., and was honorably discharged in December, 1918. For some years, he was associated with his older brother, William, in the retail meat business, under the firm name of Cold Storage Market, in Nampa. For 15 years, he managed that business. About 10 years ago, the market was sold and the Keim family concentrated on its packing and wholesale meat business with Wallace as superintendent of production. At the time of his death, he was executive vice president of the H. H. Keim Company, Nampa, an office he had held since its incorporation in 1925. Wallace Keim's public services were numerous. He served as post commander and district commander of the American Legion and, at the time of his death, he was a member of the post executive committee. He was, for eight years, a member of the city council and, at the time of his death, he was serving his third term as a member of the Idaho state house of representatives. He had also been a delegate to the Republican state conventions. His favorite recreations were hunting and fishing. Attending him in his illness were a brother, Rev. H. H. Keim, Jr., of Eldora, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Annie Keim of North Manchester, Ind. Other survivors are his wife, the former Edna Rowland, to whom he was married Jan. 30, 1921; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Keim, Sr.; a daughter, Jan, and a son, Peter, all of Nampa; three other brothers, Commander Silas A. Keim, U.S. Navy Medical Corps, Weeksville, N.C., Richard V. and Stanley B. Keim with whom he was associated in business, both of Nampa, and a sister, Esther, wife of Dr. D. Stanley Houser, North Liberty, Ind. Those who were with Wallace in his extended illness marveled at his courage and cheerfulness when he knew his recovery was extremely doubtful. He laughed and joked with doctors and nurses until the day before his death. Meyersdale Republican, March 11, 1948
