"Red" Kephart, 70, of Somerset, died May 7, 1998, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born March 21, 1928, in Johnstown, son of the late William and Minnie (Miller) Kephart. Preceded in death by brother, Alvin Pendleton. Survived by wife of 40 years, the former Dolores Jamison; and these children: Mrs. Charles (Deborah) Crimone, Somerset; Mrs. Jeffrey (Jacqueline) Weicht, Somerset; Clark (married to the former Erin Stetzer) of Pittsburgh; also grandchildren: Christopher, Andrew and Courtney. Brother of Ralph Pendleton of Freemont, Ohio; Helen Malzi of Johnstown; Ida Belle Brunnet of Kulman, Ala.; and Paul Pendleton of Galion, Ohio. Veteran of U.S. Army, World War II. Retired employee of GTE, where he worked for 37 years. Graduate of Conemaugh Township High School, where he lettered in football, basketball and track, and played on the first baseball team at Conemaugh Township. He was an active participant in baseball on the local level, coaching little league, senior league and American Legion baseball. He was inducted into the Somerset County Old Timers Baseball Association Hall of Fame in 1997, and the American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978. He was a scout for the New York Mets organization. Member of the Jerome American Legion. Attended Somerset Christian and Missionary. Alliance Church. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, at the Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Alliance Church. Rev. Walter Frankenberry officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
