Kerekes, 81, formerly of Lincoln Highway, Jenner Township, died Sept. 1, 2005 at Siemon Lakeview Manor Estate, Somerset. Born Sept. 9, 1923, in Alicia, Washington County, son of Stephen and Elizabeth (Katko) Kerekes. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 58 years, the former Anna Mae Parks, on Dec. 22, 2002; and brother, James. Survived by daughter, Joanne, married to Tom Roland, LaPlata, Md.; two sons, Charles T., married to Marcia Smith, Jenner Township; and Roger and Leigh Kerekes, Johnstown; grandchildren, Aimee (Kerekes), married to Curt Snelbaker, Adam Kerekes; Chris Cornette, married to Cheryl Lewis; and Kalynn Kerekes; great-granddaughter, Morgan G. Lees; and great-grandson, Cameron Charles Snelbaker. Brother of Ann, married to Frank Tyler, Northport, Fla.; and John, Osseo, Mich.; brother-in-law of Ella, widow of James Kerekes, New Boston, Mich. Graduate of California State Teachers College and also received a master's degree from Michigan State University. A member of St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boswell; Somerset Post 554, VFW; Somerset Post 181, American Legion; Boswell Athletic and Sportsmen Association; China-Burma-India Hump Pilot's Association; C-B-I Roof Garden BASHA; Ferndale Sportsmen Association; Jenner Rod & Gun Club; and Boswell Historical Society. An Air Force veteran of World War II, having served as a navigator with the 436 Bomb Squadron. Lt. Col. Kerekes logged 369 combat hours and was awarded two air medals. He served as BASHA commander from 1991-1993, Pennsylvania Historian 1990, 1991, 1992 and Pennsylvania commander, 1993-1994. A retired high school teacher from the North Star School District, with 37 1/2 years of service and also was a former instructor at UPJ. He was an avid follower of all Pittsburgh sports teams and enjoyed entering contests and sweepstakes and also was a BASS enthusiast. Past part time employee of Green Gables Restaurant. Also had been a performer at the Mountain Playhouse. Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Main Street, Boswell, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Pastor Larry C. Hoover officiating. Interment, Mount Zion Cemetery, Jenner Township, with graveside military rites in charge of Somerset County Honor Guard, C-B-I Memorial service and a gathering of BASA members both will be held Saturday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Boswell, PA 15531, would be appreciated.
