Altho in delicate health for several years, she was not confined to her bed until three weeks before her death. Mrs. Kerling was born in Garrett County, Md., on May 22, 1854. Her maiden name was Christiana Hileman. About 55 years ago she married Bernard Kerling, whose death preceded hers by one year and 8 days. They had no children. After their marriage they lived in Garrett County a short time and later at Addison. They moved to Confluence 45 years ago and owned a nice home on Casselman Street. During her last days Mrs. Kerling was cared for by her niece, Mrs. L. J. Holiday, and received the most attentive care that even the most devoted daughter could bestow. Mrs. Kerling was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, being affiliated with the Accident, Md., congregation. Before her death she joined the Confluence church. She was a sincere Christian woman, upright and honest. The funeral took place at her home on January 30, her pastor, Rev. Geo. O. Ritter, officiating; interment in Addison Cemetery.
