Killius, M.D., 82, St. Paul's Home, Greenville, formerly of Berlin, died June 24, 2005, at his residence. Born March 1, 1923, in Johnstown, son of James and Sarah Clarice (Heiner) Killius. Orphaned at 11, Jim was raised by his grandmother, Mary Ellen (Edwards) Killius. Preceded in death by parents; grandmother; sister, Ruth E. Killius, brother-in-law, David R. Williams and wife Joyce B.; and a niece Daneale Williams. Survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Dorothy Irene Williams; daughter, Martha, married to Michael Pechnyo, Wilmette, Ill.; son, David, Keene, N.H.; grandchildren, Daniel and Anne Pechnyo; nephews, Timothy Williams, Albuquerque, N.M., and Keith Williams, Windber; and niece Nadine Williams, Albuquerque. A 1940 graduate of Johnstown High School, where he was active in Demolay and drum major in the band and the 40 and 8 band. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and its medical school in 1946 under the Army Specialized Training Program, and was second trombonist in the marching band. He was then commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the Medical Corps and served his internship at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh until 1947 when he married his wife Dorothy on July 15, 1947. He was called to active duty at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas for basic training, and then joined the Far East Command in Japan where his wife joined him until 1949. In 1949, he moved to Berlin and began his family practice. He joined the staff of Meyersdale Community Hospital in 1952, where he acted as anesthetist, radiologist and served as chief of staff. He also joined the Somerset County Medical Society and held several offices, both local and state, throughout his career. He retired from his medical practice in 1984. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Berlin, where he had served as deacon and elder. He also was a member of the choir and a bell choir substitute. He was active in Camp Living Waters as a head counselor of the fourth and fifth grade camps for more than five years. He served as moderator for the Penn West Conference from 1991 to 1993, and was active on the board of St. Paul's Home since 1987 and remained active after moving there in 2002 serving on the Medical Ethics and Building committees. He was a 56-year member of the Berlin Lions Club where he had served as vice-president, president, lion tamer and tail twister. He was a former member of the Berlin Fire Co. and the Berlin Brothersvalley School Board. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Trinity UCC, Berlin. The Rev. James Hughes officiating.
