Kimmel, 75, a prominent farmer of Stoneycreek [sic] Township, died in the Somerset Community Hospital, at 12:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12th. He was admitted to the hospital a week previously and had been in failing health for several months. Mr. Kimmel was born Dec. 3, 1871, the son of Jacob and Hester (Hillegass) Kimmel on the Kimmel farm near Downey, where he spent his entire life. He was a teacher, a land surveyor and farmer, and was active until his recent illness. He was married to Mollie Stutzman, who preceded him in death by four years. His only son, Charles, died a year ago. He was interested in religious work and was a member of the Consistory of the Glade Evangelical and Reformed Church. Surviving are seven daughters - Mrs. Arthur Warstler, Beaver Falls; Mrs. Wm. Will, Berlin R.D. 1; Mrs. P. J. Spangler, Bedford; Mrs. Edward Huddleston, Berlin R.D. 1; Mrs. Jay Walker, Midland, and Dorothy, at home, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at his late residence, Friday, Feb. 14, at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Arthur J. Miller officiating. Interment in the Downey cemetery, adjoining the Kimmel farm, under the direction of Mortician John H. Deaner of Stoystown. Meyersdale Republican, February 20, 1947
