Kimmel, 78, of Somerset, died July 16, 1999, at home. Born Jan. 17, 1921, in Lorain, Ohio. Son of James R. and Ethel (Miller) Kimmel. Preceded, in death by parents and sister, Jacqueline Lauer. Survived by wife of 52 years, the former Edyth Steckman; son, Douglas James, married to the former Kay Lynn Gardner of Meyersdale, and grandson, Douglas James Jr. Retired as warrant officer W-2 from the U.S. Army, having served in World War II and the Korean War. Served as a first sergeant, administrative and supply technician, for Company C, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, for 27 years. Member of Grace Brethren Church, Somerset, having served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent, and worked with Junior Church. Also member of Somerset American Legion Post 181 and Somerset VFW Post 554. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Pastor Mark DeSilva. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Graveside military rites by Company C. Memorial contributions may be given to "In Touch" Hospice, 651 S. Center Ave., Somerset, Pa. 15501.
