Born in Friedens, he is the son of the late William and Nevada (Mostoller) Kimmel. Also preceded in death by brothers: John, George, Wilmer and sisters: Velma Walker and Shirley Custer. Survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Ruth M. Jones, son, Jeffery Kimmel of Pittston, daughter Kelley Oberdick of Mechanicsburg, and grandson, Scott Haney of Mechanicsburg. Brother of: Victoria Smith of Cairnbrook; Blanche Ferraro, Adamsville; and Luella Speicher of Somerset. Mr. Kimmel was a veteran of WW II, Korea and Vietnam and retired from the Air Force in 1968. He attended North Carolina State University and taught high school in Cameron N.C. In 1984, he retired as FAA Radar unit chief at the Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport. He was a member of the N.E. Retired Air Force Wing in Wyoming where he served as membership chairman and was awarded volunteer of the year. Also a member of the Retirees Activities Office serving as a counselor. He was member of Retired Volunteer Service Program and was an accredited Appries Counselor of the Wilkes-Barre Office of the Aging. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. David Hamman officiating. Interment in the Mizpah Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion, VFW, Vietnam Veterans Association and Memorial Day parade committee. Daily American, October 19, 1999 [K0588]
