"Bill" 01/25/08 Daily American William D. "Bill" Kimmel, 76, 14337 Greenview Drive, Greencastle, died Jan. 15, 2008, in Waynesboro Hospital. Born Nov. 13, 1931, in Somerset, the son of the late Harry E. and Elsie (Maust) Kimmel. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one infant twin son, Delmus R. Kimmel; one sister, Ethel Mae Bell; and one brother, Ray Kimmel. He and his wife, Gloria C. (Sheeler) Kimmel, were married in 1952 in Cumberland, Md. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Dennis J. Kimmel, Greencastle; two grandchildren; four sisters, Pauline Bell, Florissante, Mo.; Dorothy Nair Fries, Mercersburg; Jean Ann Whipkey, Clinton; and Betty Nair, Rockville, Md.; two brothers, Robert Kimmel, Hermitage; and Harry Kimmel Jr., Somerset; and a number of nieces and nephews. He spent his early life in Somerset. Mr. Kimmel graduated from Somerset High School in 1950. He served from 1952 to 1954 with the U.S Army's 101st Airborne Division and was stationed in Germany. Mr. Kimmel was a television repairman at the former Elliott's TV Repair, Greencastle, from 1956 to 1973. He was a carrier and clerk with the U.S. Postal Service from 1973 until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of Greencastle Church of the Brethren. Mr. Kimmel was a member of Mount Pisgah Lodge 443, Greencastle; Zembo Shriners, Harrisburg; and the Franklin County Shrine Club, Waynesboro. He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite with the Southern Penn Scottish Rite Club Valley of Harrisburg and a member of the Harrisburg Consistory. He also was a life member of Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319, Greencastle. Mr. Kimmel enjoyed hunting, traveling and spending time with his family. A service was held in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with the Rev. Leon Yoder officiating. A Masonic service was conducted by his lodge prior to the service. The VFW also held a memorial service prior to the service. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The family received friends one hour prior to service in the funeral home.
