Born Feb. 9, 1928, son of the late Lewis M. and Edna (Hemminger) King, Rockwood. Surviving in addition to his wife Betty, is daughter, Cheri Standfest, Midland; son, Doug (Jacquie) King, Midland; grandson, Joshua (Tracy) Kruse, Dallas, Texas; great-grand-son, Jaden Joshua Kruse; sisters, Jennie (Al) Prince, Newark, Ohio, Laura (Ernie) Wirsing, Saginaw, Mich., Florence (Fred) Nicholson, Hilliard, Ohio; and his brother, Mesmore (Betty) King, Alabaster, Ala. He earned his B.S. degree from the University of Pittsburgh in accounting, and had served in the United States Air Force, Office of the Auditor General, stationed in Germany. On Aug. 27, 1950, he married Betty Pletcher in Somerset. Wes retired from The Dow Chemical Company in January 1986, after 30 years of service as an accountant. His accomplishments include having received the first Hixon Award from the Gladwin County Kiwanis Club, recipient of the Gladwin County Kiwanis Club Presidential Commendation, donating 113 units of blood, and helping to establishing Gladwin County's first recycling pro-gram. Memberships and past service positions include: the Board of Clement Fire Association, Butman Township Supervisor - Gladwin County, United Way Board of Gladwin County, Board of Michigan Baptist Homes Inc., former Gladwin Kiwanis Club president and former chairman of the Republican Party of Gladwin County.
