KIRBY Salisbury Siftings A considerable number of people still living in Salisbury and vicinity will be sorry to learn of the death of William F. Kirby, who came to Salisbury in 1880, the year Tub Mill Mine was opened, and left here with his family about the year 1884. He was the first superintendent of the Tub Mill colliery, and held that position during the greater portion of his residence here. For a short time, however, when the mine was not in operation, he had charge of the boiler room at the big lumbering plant then operated at Boynton by the Dill-Watson Lumber Company. Mr. Kirby was popular with the miners who worked under his supervision, and they were sorry when he left here. The following account of his death, burial, family connections, etc., appeared in the Cumberland (Md.) Daily News, Tuesday morning. William F. Kirby, 80 years old, 7 Race Street, retired Potomac Edison Company steam line foreman, died yesterday morning at the Allegany Hospital, where he underwent an operation Saturday. He was a native of Frostburg and had lived in Cumberland about fifty years, retiring twelve years ago. Besides his widow, Mrs. Annie Paul Kirby, he is survived by six children, George L., and C. Dale Kirby, this city; Frank W. Kirby, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Robert J. Hatton, Mrs. Arch G. Perdew, this city, and Mrs. Harry White, Greensburg, Pa. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Margaret Ahrberg, Pittsburgh, Pa.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will be in the family plot in Rose Hill Cemetery, where a son is buried.
