"Chief" Knapp Jr., 64, of Somerset passed away Oct. 3, 2000, at the V.A. Medical Center in Aspinwall. Born April 22, 1936, in Lodi, Ohio. Son of the late Lewis and Gladys (Strait) Knapp Sr. He was a very dedicated veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War. He was a member of the Somerset American Legion Post 181, The Somerset V.F.W. Post 554, a Life Member of the AM VETS Post 162 in Huntington, Ohio, and the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 587 in Somerset. He also was a member of the V.F.W. Color Guard, the Somerset Memorial Day Parade Committee, the Jenner Rod & Gun Club, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1801 in Somerset. Friends will be received 5-9 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. A memorial service and interment at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
