Born August 10, 1910, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Harry and Margaret (Wetmiller) Knecht. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Grace Knecht and a brother, Lee J. Knecht. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Margaret S. (Merrbach) Knecht; four daughters: Frances M. Wood, San Antonio, Texas; Helen M. Kyle, West Salisbury; Julia A. Prokop, Fort Worth, Texas; and Jean M. Durst, Salisbury; nine grandchildren: April, Jenny, Michael, Mary Ann, Jeff, Brian, Jodie, Joseph and Julie; and ten great-grandchildren: Michael, Makayla, Madison, Chaise, Aaron, Donovan, Dylan, Leo, Caleb, and Paige. Mr. Knecht was a machinist for Knecht Tool Works for nine years and a mechanic for West Salisbury Garage for 26 years. He was a well known banjo, fiddle and bass fiddle player having entertained at the Pennsylvania Maple Festival, local nursing homes, picnics and square dances. Friends were received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., Salisbury, where services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating. Interment, Salisbury Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department or St. John's Lutheran Church.
