Born Feb. 12, 1911. Son of Joseph Adam and Margaret Sloan Knecht of West Salisbury. Preceded in death by parents, wife Elizabeth (Cassidy) Knecht and brother, Lawrence. Survived by: daughter Anne Knecht Gabany; grandchildren, Michael Andrew and Elizabeth Hope Gabany; eldest brother, Sloan Michael Knecht; and many loving nieces and nephews. He graduated Salutatorian of the Class of 1928 at Salisbury Elk-Lick High School. Army veteran of World War II. Owned and operated Knecht Electric, Meyersdale. Member of Rotary, where he served as club president and governor of District 733. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1976. Member of the Meyersdale American Legion for 50 years. Had served on the Meyersdale Community Hospital Board, and Meyersdale School Board as president. From 1958 to 1999, he served on the Board of Directors of the Citizens National Bank. He was a devoted husband and loving father. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Leckemby Funeral Home, Meyersdale. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Sts. Philip and James Catholic Church, Father James Dugan Celebrant. Interment Church Cemetery. Wake service 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
