He was the son of Joseph Adam Knecht and Margaret Sloan Knecht and was a lifelong resident of West Salisbury. Lawrence was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Michael's Church of West Salisbury. He was inducted into the Third Order of St. Francis, Seculah. Larry spent many years lovingly caring for his aunt Gertrude at their homeplace in West Salisbury. He is survived by his brother James William Knecht of Meyersdale and Sloan Michael Knecht of Falls Church, Va. He will be missed by his nieces Anne Knecht Gabany, Margaret Reingruber, Mary O'Connor, Grace Weeden, Cathy Williamson, and his nephew Michael Sloan Knecht. Uncle Larry was loved and will be sadly missed by his great-niece Hope Gabany and great-nephew Andrew Gabany. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Leckemby Funeral Home, Meyersdale. The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Church with Father Albert J. Anselmi officiating. Interment, St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, West Salisbury. The Christian wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
