Knepper, one of the prominent and progressive farmers of Somerset County, died at his residence one-half mile north of Berlin, Sunday, Apr. 28, following a cerebral hemorrhage, after an illness of five years. He was born Jan. 22, 1873, a son of the late Lewis and Elizabeth Walker Knepper, and was a life-long resident of Brothersvalley Township. Mr. Knepper was greatly interested in education, attending the normal schools in Berlin and Meyersdale, and later teaching seven terms in Brothersvalley Township. The writer of this obituary being one of his pupils. He also served very efficently [sic] as secretary of the school board. He was an active member of the Church of the Brethren at Brotherton and served as director and vice president of the First National Bank of Berlin until the time of his death. Mr. Knepper is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Landis Knepper, and a son, John L. Knepper, Berlin R.D. 2, and one daughter, Mary Elizabeth, wife of Calvin Will, at home, and three grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Knepper shared their home with a number of orphan boys and girls who have grown to manhood and womanhood under their Christian guidance. Funeral services were held at his late residence, Wednesday, May 1, at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Roy S. Forney officiating. Interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Berlin, under direction of Johnson & Son.
