(Kaufman) Knesche, 96, of White Star Residence, Jennerstown, formerly of Boswell RD 2, died Jan. 29, 1999, at Somerset Hospital. Born Aug. 9, 1902, in Conemaugh Township, daughter of John M. and Elizabeth (Shaffer) Kaufman. Preceded in death by parents; husband Joseph A., on April 25, 1961; sisters Luella Berkey, Edna Miltenberger, Grace Kaufman, Kathryn Hoffman and Erma May; and brothers Leon W., Rev. Ralph E., and Rev. Martin L. Sister of Hazel Mishler, Mildred Liska, John H., married to the former Marjorie Lantz, and James W., married to the former Lillian Binnie, all of Boswell RD 2; Daisy Kocher, Johnstown; and Harry F., married to the former, Yvonne Heckler; Lakewood, N.J. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A member of Jennerstown United Methodist Church. She served with the U.S. Army Nurse's Corps, in Australia during WWII. She was a supervisor of nursing at J.C. Blair Hospital in Huntingdon, Pa.; General Hospital, New London, Conn.; and General Hospital, Painsville, Ohio. She was also director of education at Indiana Hospital, Indiana, Pa., and she received a master's degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania. In all locations where Mary worked, she was sure to be an active member of her local church. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. John R. Guerre officiating.
