All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ EMILY KNIGHT Mrs. Thomas Knight, an esteemed resident of Confluence for the last 54 years, died at her home on William Street on Wednesday, August 12, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 19 days. She had been sick for a long time and was confined to her home for several years. Mrs. Knight was born in Dudley, England, on January 23, 1856, her maiden name being Emily Power. She married Thomas Knight in England, in April, 1875. They left for the United States immediately after their marriage and lived for one year in the State of Indiana and came to Confluence to live in 1876, where they resided since. To Mr. and Mrs. Knight were born six sons and four daughters. One son, Alfred, preceded his mother to the grave when nine years old, and William P. Knight, a prominent citizen of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, and at one time a member of its City Council, died there in September, 1929. The surviving sons are: Arthur D. Knight of Sault Sainte Marie, Mich.; Charles E. Knight, Oshawa, Ontario; Ralph and Ray Knight, both of whom reside in Confluence. The surviving daughters are: Mildred, wife of Charles Reynolds, Martinsburg, W.Va.; Edith, wife of J. Willis Mitchell, and Emily, wife of Charles K. Beggs, Confluence. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was the last of her family to pass away. Mrs. Knight was a devoted wife and mother, a good neighbor and kind and sympathetic to all in sickness and distress. She devoted her life to her home and family. She joined the Christian Church of Confluence in 1884 and was a sincere worker in church and Sunday school as long as her health permitted. Her long life was a well spent one. Funeral services were held at her late home at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 14, her pastor, Rev. Weisheit, officiating. Interment in Ursina Cemetery. The pall-bearers were G. A. Frantz, George F. Frazee, William A. Burnworth, C. B. Humbert and Grant Pyle. Undertaker C. B. Humbert had charge of the funeral arrangements. Among those who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Knight, Oshawa, Canada; T. B. Knight, McKees Rocks; Mrs. Charles Reynolds and family, and E. H. Morris, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Kenneth Mitchell, Youngwood, Pa. Meyersdale Republican, August 21, 1930
