Born June 7, 1913, in Parsons, W.Va., he was a son of the late Albert Lewis and Minnie Catherine (Davis) Knotts. He was also preceded in death by two sons, 10 brothers, and four sisters. Mr. Knotts is survived by Virginia R. (Stemple) Knotts, his wife of 64 years, whom he married Feb. 19, 1936; three sons: Richard A. and wife Jeanie (Wright), Frostburg, Md.; Alfred R. and wife Joyce (Leydig), Berlin; and Jacob W. Jr. and wife Joyce (Wagner), Hagerstown, Md.; a daughter, Alma R., wife of Richard Schwanke, Abingdon, Md.; two brothers: Lester and wife Mary (Wagner), Meyersdale; and Clayton, and wife Rosalea (Davis), Hambleton, W.Va.; 17, grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mr. Knolls was retired from the Celanese Corporation, Cumberland, where he had worked in the spinning department. He was a past president of the Wellersburg Senior Citizens. Funeral services were held Feb. 2 at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, with the Rev. Julie L. Applegate officiating. Interment, Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Glencoe. The family requests that memorials in honor of Mr. Knotts be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association The New Republic, February 8, 2001 [K0933]
