Mr. Koontz was very ill for six weeks last winter, with the same ailment and has not been in good health since. On the day of his death he worked at his shop as usual, and after eating his evening meal, told his wife that he felt bad. A physician was called but could not prevent his death. Mr. Koontz was well known here. For several years prior to 1921, he operated a shoemaker shop at the same location as the present one owned by George Yoder. In April of 1921, he married Mabel Livengood, daughter of the late Samuel and Mrs. Millie Livengood, and moved to Bedford, where he established a business. Prior to his dwelling here, he had married Laura Logue, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Logue of Coal Run. The first Mrs. Koontz died, leaving him with two small sons. One of these two sons, Ray, survives and resides in Everett, Pa. In addition to his widow and his son Ray, he is survived by four sons, by his second marriage; Robert, at home, after serving in the Pacific with the Marines; Ralph, in the Navy, in the South Pacific, and expected home soon, and Samuel and Daniel, at home. He is also survived by two sisters and four brothers; Crist and Sylvester, of Somerset; Charles, of Jerome, and Harry of Harrison, Pa. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Koontz, preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted in the Brown Funeral Parlor in Huntingdon at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 11th, with Rev. Kelly of the United Brethren Church of that place officiating.
