Born Aug. 8, 1905. A daughter of the late Hixon Ephraim and Hattie (Karns) Akers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul D. Koontz on Oct. 4, 1997; a son-in-law, Eugene Miller on Aug. 11, 1997; three sisters, Floye Winecoff, Nancy Oliver and Lyda Parker and one brother, Marvin Akers. Surviving are two daughters, Roberta K. Moser and husband William of Meyersdale and Lois Ann Miller of Sterling Heights, Mich.; six grandchildren, Beth L. Moser, Cynthia J. (Moser) Long and husband Owen, Scott D. Moser and wife Barbara J. (Knotts), Rodney P. Miller, Heidi Sue Mellen and husband Joseph, and Lane E. Miller and wife Julie (Welsh); and 14 great-grandchildren, Megan and Douglas Ocheltree, Kelsey, Derick, Janelle, Kendra and Jordan Long, Krista, Jenna and Nathan Moser, Jason and Charles Shelton and Benjamin and Sarah Miller. She was an active member of the Meyersdale Church of Brethren for 70 years. In her earlier years at the church, she served as the church clerk. She also served as a Deaconess and Superintendent of the Junior Department for decades. Friends will be received after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home. She will then be taken to the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren to lie in state Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. time of service. Rev. Eric Shaulis officiating. Interment, Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Laurel Mountain Chapter, 1011 Old Salem Road, Greensburg, Pa. 15601 or to the Meyersdale Church of Brethren.
