Koontz, 92, of Meyersdale, died Oct. 4, 1997, at Meyersdale Manor. Mr. Koontz was born March 24, 1905, in Woodbury. He was the son of the late Daniel G. and Esther Ann (Detwiller) Koontz, who died at his birth, and stepmother Nancy Sollenberger Koontz, who raised him as one of her own children. Mr. Koontz is survived by his wife of 70 years, Bertha R. (Akers) Koontz of Meyersdale Manor; two daughters, Roberta (Koontz), wife of William D. Moser, Meyersdale, and Lois Ann (Koontz) Miller of Troy, MI. Grandchildren: Beth I. (Moser) and husband Ronnie L. Ocheltree, Cynthia J. (Moser) and husband C. Owen Long; Scott D. and wife Barbara J. (Knotts) Moser, Rodney P. Miller, Heidi S. Shelton, Lane E. and wife Julia S. (Welsh) Miller. Great grandchildren: Megan and Douglas Ocheltree, Kelsey, Derick, Janelle and Kendra Long; Krista, Janna and Nathan Moser; Jason and Charles Shelton and Benjamin Miller. He is also survived by brother, Glenn Koontz, and his wife Frieda of Everett and sister, Faye, and her husband Hector Benalcazar of Quito, Ecuador. Also numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grand-nephews. Preceded in death by sister, Ferne Koontz, June 6, 1997, and son-in-law, Eugene Miller, Aug. 11, 1997. Mr. Koontz was an agent for the Prudential Insurance Co. for 31 years. He was an active member of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, having held many offices during his lifetime and was a deacon emeritus. He was the last surviving charter member of the Meyersdale Lions Club and was an active member as long as he was able. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Leckemby Funeral. On Wednesday, he will be taken to the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren to lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m, the time of service, with Pastor John A. Nalley. Interment, Union Cemetery. The family suggests donations be made to the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren P.O. Box 7, 11 Beachley St., Meyersdale, Pa. 15552 or the American Cancer Society 332 S. Lynn Ave., Somerset, Pa. 15552.
