Koontz, 93, of Stoystown, died Dec. 4, 1980, at Somerset Community Hospital. Born Feb. 2, 1887, in Quemahoning Township, son of Jacob and Susan (Wingard) Koontz. Preceded in death by parents; first wife, the former Mary Smith; second wife, the former Elizabeth Engle; third wife, the former Edith (Taylor) Coffroth; son Donald; one granddaughter; eight sisters and four brothers. He is survived by these children: Mrs. Phyllis Stutzman, Stoystown; John F., married to Emily Custer, Stoystown RD 1; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Step-sons: Judge Charles Coffroth and Attorney Taylor Coffroth, both of Windber. Retired coal miner and butcher, having owned and operated the Koontz Slaughter Shop in the Stoystown area for 30 years. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown, and he had served 18 years on the local school board. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Ronald C. Long.
