   Joseph S. Koot, 92, Windber, died July 19, 2006, at Windber Medical Center. Born Feb.
  23, 1914, in Norwich (McKean County). Son of Frank and Mary (Gorczyk) Koot. Preceded in
  death by parents; son, Joseph; brothers, Stanley, William, and John; sisters, Sophia
  Fluder-Yarzumbeck, Thressa Ledney and Rose Czajkowski. Survived by wife, the former
  Martha Fluder; and children, Geraldine, wife of James Westervelt, Fla., Virginia, wife of
  Augustin Cano, Conn., Madeline, wife of Martin Teli, Ohio. Also nine grandchildren and
  seven great-grandchildren. Brother of Julia Zack, Conn., Anne Dowgiallo, Fla., and Martha
  Neal, Windber. Also daughter- in-law, Donna (Newcomer) Koot, Ga. and numerous nieces and
  nephews. Death ends a marriage union of 67 years. Joe devoted his life to his family and
  friends. He was generous and compassionate to all who were blessed and fortunate to know
  him. Retired heavy equipment operator from Costantino Coal Co. Member of UMWA Local 1023,
  Windber Polish American Education Association, Polish Roman Catholic Union, William Penn
  Association and former member of Windber Moose Lodge 349. Member of St. Elizabeth Ann
  Seton Catholic Church, Windber where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday,
  the Rev. Leonard E. Voytek, V.F. Interment, St. John Cantius Cemetery, Windber. Friends
  received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the William Kisiel Funeral Home, Windber,
  where vigil for the deceased will be held. Donations can be made to St. Elizabeth Ann
  Seton Catholic Church.
