Maple King Succumbs in Hospital Allen Lester Korns, 69, of Hyndman RD 1, died March 6, 1974, in Windber Hospital. A native of Southampton Township, he was a son of the late Wilson and Mary (Geiger) Korns. A well-known area farmer and maple producer. Mr. Korns was named Maple King of the Somerset County Maple Festival in 1950 and again in 1952. He was a member of Wellersburg United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys Bittner; three sons, Melvin Korns, at home; Luther Allen Korns, Midlothian, Md.; and Alvin Lee Korns, at Somerset; a daughter, Mrs. G. Estalene Dietle, Jackson Center; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral service was conducted at Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, Saturday afternoon with Rev. John D. Miller officiating. Interment in Cook Cemetery, Wellersburg. Meyersdale Republican, May 16, 1974 [NOTE: there has been a question regarding Allen's death date.
