Born Oct. 29, 1924, in Windber, the son of the late Michael and Mary (Knapp) Koshute. Also preceded in death by brothers, George and Andrew and a sister, Mary Yankowski. Survived by his wife, the former Betty Lapina; daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Theresa) Burkett, Johnstown; brothers, Michael and John Koshute, both of Windber and a sister, Mrs. Cy (Elizabeth) Zelenik, Hummelstown. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Windber VFW, American Legion and the Slovak Club. He was an avid Windber football fan and a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Bethlehem Steel after 30 years. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Windber. Father Gregory Michalisin celebrant. Committal in Somerset County Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to Sisters of St. Basil The Great, P.O. Box 878, Uniontown, PA 15404. A wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
