Born Dec. 26, 1981, in Johnstown, son of Nicholas C. and Juliana M. (Butchko) Kovach. Preceded in death by uncle, John A. Butchko, and beloved dog, Casey. Survived by parents, and sister, Carolyn A., all at home; grandparents, Rose (Marone) and John Butchko, Hollsopple; and Helen (Pelesky) and George Kovach, Jenners; aunts and uncles, Martin, and wife, Henrietta Butchko, Johnstown; godfather, George Kovach, and wife, Cheryl, Jenners; Irene Kovach, Jenners; and godmother, Evelyn Pelesky, Jenners; cousins, Jennifer Butchko, Johnstown; Allyson, married to Ron Cygnarowicz, Pittsburgh; and Anthony Butchko, New Jersey; many other great-aunts, uncles and cousins and special buddy, Cody. Michael was a 2000 graduate of North Star High School, Boswell, where his passion was football. He was an outstanding player and proud member of the North Star Cougar Football Team and was selected to play in the Ken Lantzy Finest 40 All- Star Game. He especially enjoyed the Friday football dinners with his teammates. He then went on to play at the collegiate level for Waynesburg College and the semi-professional division for the Cumberland Cougars in Maryland. Currently employed by Ron Druist Construction, Boswell, and formerly employed by Cunsolos Furniture, Windber. Member of St. Mary's Orthodox Greek Catholic Church, Jenners, and Jenner Rod and Gun Club. Through the years, Michael has made some lasting friendships that will endure forever and he has touched many lives. Michael will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his amazing laugh and contagious smile. He loved being outdoors, especially doing anything involving sports or snowmobiling. Viewing from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell, where Parastas will be sung at 6 p.m. Thursday and Panachida will at held at 10:15 a.m. Friday. Divine liturgy at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church, Jenners. The Rev. Father Anthony Joseph, celebrant. Interment, church cemetery. Michael, you were and will always be the greatest joy in our lives. You were the air we breathed. It was a privilege and honor to be your parents and we thank God with all of our hearts for allowing you to be a part of our lives, if only for a short while. With gratitude, we give you back into His loving care. The pain in our hearts is unspeakable and we long for the day when we are together again. We love you, Mike. Mommy and Daddy.
