"Red" Kovak, 79, of Cairnbrook, died Feb. 11, 1998, at home. Born Jan. 9, 1919, in Harrison. Son of John and Regina (Grohal) Kovak. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 49 years, the former Eleanor Fusina, who passed away Feb. 14, 1994; brother Walter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Charles O'Connell, Nellie and Angelo Antennucci, Helen and Harry Segal, Mike Rajtik; niece Sally Dively; also father and mother-in-law, Celeste and Teresa Fusina; brothers-in-law: Dominick, Joseph, Rudy, Robert and Louis Fusina and spouses. Survived by son, Francis, married to the former Mary Gwyn, Somerset; daughters Donna, wife of Robert Mulcahy, and Joyce, wife of Lloyd Lane Jr., both of Cairnbrook. Grandchildren: Michael and Susan Kovak, Heather and Bradley Mulcahy, Nichalas and Angie Lane, and great-granddaughter Elle. Also survived by brother Joseph, married to the former Rose Romus, Ohio; sisters Florence Rajtik, McConnellsburg, and Nora, wife of Joseph Leonard, Hooversville; sisters-in-law Mary Fuschino, Hooversville, and Della Fusina, Michigan; brother-in-law John Fusina and wife Josephine, Davidsville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Retired coal miner. Member of Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, UMWA Local 6410, PNA Lodge 1878. Red was an avid baseball fan and player, who held the second base position in the first AAABA games in Johnstown beginning in 1945. Friends were received from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and will be received from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City, where rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. and vigil service at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Central City, with Rev. Mons. I.C. Wadas officiating. Interment, Parish Cemetery.
