(Ziggy) 05/30/06 Daily American Sigmond "Ziggy" J. Kurowski, 92, Windber, passed away May 27, 2006 at the Church of the Brethren Home, Windber. Born Feb. 16, 1914 in Mount Pleasant, son of Walter and Angeline (Spieg) Kurowski. Preceded in death by parents, wife, Frances (Przywara) Kurowski, and brothers, Felix and Edward Kurowski. Survived by daughter, Frances, wife of Charles E. Verotsky, Mechanicsburg; grandsons, Marc Verotsky and Michael Verotsky and wife, Jennifer; also a grand-daughter, Michele, wife of Sean Kieff; great-grand-daughter, Ashley Michele Kieff. Brother of Walter Kurowski and wife, Helen of Lorain, Ohio. Also survived by a special friend, Ann Niovich, and numerous nieces and nephews. Retired coal miner of Berwind White Coal and former owner of Kurowski Cafe, Scalp Level. The secretary of St. Casimirs Society, former director of PRCU, member of PNA . Also a member of Windber Polish Educational Club, Scalp Level Volunteer Fire Company and Deep Sea Fishing Club. Former director of Windber Area School board, a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, Windber, where Sigmond was an altar server and an usher. Friends were received Monday at the William Kisiel Funeral Home, Windber, where vigil for the deceased was held and where combined rosary with the Rosary Society and the Ushers Club were held Monday. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, Windber, with the Very Rev. Leonard E. Voytek. Committal at St. John Cantius Catholic Cemetery, Windber.
