During his early life he was associated with his father, Henry Kurtz, in the lumber business. He served several terms on the Borough Council. In 1904 he secured a water franchise from Confluence Council under the name of Citizens Water Co. He was president of this company until his death. In 1900 he married Mrs. Rose Brown Fichtner. Surviving are his widow, a son, Charles Jr., of Confluence, a daughter, Isabel, at home, a grandson, Charles III, two brothers, Harry Kurtz of Weston, W.Va., Harvey Kurtz Jr., of Confluence and a sister, Mrs. Rose Beal of Pittsburgh. The funeral service was held at his home Sunday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. Harry Morehead, pastor of the Baptist Church, and Rev. J. S. Shannon, pastor of the Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was made in the Jersey Baptist Cemetery. Flowers were in profusion and very beautiful. Meyersdale Republican, July 31, 1941
