Born May 24, 1921 in Sipesville, the daughter of the late Verda Friedline and John W. Berkey. Also preceded in death by husband of 51 years, John Kurtz who died April 7, 1994, and a brother Eugene Berkey. Survived by brother Vernon Berkey and wife Nancy Cober Berkey of Somerset, special friend John Stephens of Shiremanstown and 11 cousins. Member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Shiremanstown, Elks Club, Mechanicsburg Senior Citizens and Retired Federal Employee Workers Association. Worked in an ammunition factory in Latrobe during World War II, was Postmaster of Gray, and also worked for the Department of Transportation. She resided in Honolulu, Hawaii, six months and Shiremanstown for six months. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home Somerset, where service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday; with Rev. Michael Seifried officiating. Interment in Beams Cemetery.
