Later, she returned to her native county, and married Edgar Kyle, a veteran of the Civil War, who afterward became Sheriff of Somerset County. He preceded her in death December 12, 1913. Mrs. Kyle's entire married life was spent in the county in which she was born. For the last 31 years she had her home with her son, Elbridge, to whom she was devotedly, indeed, almost worshipfully, attached. Here she passed her old age in happiness and peace, and received every attention, care and comfort which human love could bestow upon her. She was a lifelong and faithful member of the Lutheran Church, and was present at the services a few weeks ago when the present pastor of her church preached his first sermon in Meyersdale. Her favorite scripture lesson was the 23rd Psalm. Though there were many other chapters of the Holy Writ of which she was also very fond, the Shepherd Psalm held the highest place in the affections, and was her greatest source of strength and comfort. She was a diligent student of the Bible and had read the sacred volume through many times during the course of her long and useful life. She was the mother of seven children, five daughters and two sons. Her husband, one son, Bowman Kyle, and two daughters preceded her to the spirit world. She is survived by one son, Elbridge; three daughters, Mrs. Marian Cover and Mrs. Edna Miller, of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Lucy Ritter, of Boswell; one brother, Dr. Samuel Statler, of Bedford; seven grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. In the span of her more than four score years and seven, Mrs. Kyle saw many marvelous changes in our country. In 1844, the year of her birth John Tyler of Virginia was President of the United States. She lived during the administration of 22 Presidents. To have lived through such a period of years, to have seen the country change from an agricultural to an industrial civilization, and to have experienced the disquieting upheavals in thought and habits of life through which we have passed, and to have retained her reason unimpaired and her faith in God and in humanity unshaken to the very last, is indeed a great achievement of which her children may well be proud. The funeral was held at the Kyle residence on Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at which time the new pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church, Rev. Howard K. Hilner assisted by Rev. B. A. Black, pastor of Amity Reformed Church, conducted the brief service. Interment was made in Union Cemetery. Undertakers R. Reich & Son had charge of the burial arrangements. The funeral was largely attended and there was a great wealth of floral tributes. Meyersdale Republican, March 10, 1932
