JOSEPH LaCAVERA

  Prof. Joseph LaCavera, aged 83, father of Nat LaCavera of Meyersdale, died at 
his home in Termini Imerese, Italy, last week.
  Mr. LaCavera was a veteran band leader of national prominence.  His musical 
career started at the age of nine with the band of which he in later years 
became conductor.
  A number of musicians who were former students under Prof. LaCavera are now 
located in the United States, among these is Sebastian Sopienza, clarinet 
soloist with the famous Westinghouse band at Pittsburgh.
  Prof. Joseph LaCavera is survived by his wife, Josephine Calcagno LaCavera, a 
daughter, Santina, and son, Frank, in Italy, and Nat in Meyersdale, Pa.  His 
only brother, Anthony, was a noted bandmaster in Chicago, Ill. for over fifty 
years, and is now a resident of California.
  Nat LaCavera was informed of the death of his father in Italy when two of his 
cousins, residents of Pittsburgh, arrived here Sunday, to deliver the sad 
message.  The cousins, Frank Satariano and Mrs. Josephine Merlina, accompanied 
by a friend, John Spagnola, returned to Pittsburgh Monday.
