Born in Berlin, Pa., she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Goucher College in 1933. Afterward she worked for the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. before marrying Humbert C. "Bert" Lancia in 1940. They moved to Evanston, Ill., where she worked as a teacher and school psychometrist for the Evanston School District. She was a member of the Berlin Brethren Church. Ruth and Bert were active volunteers at REX Hospital. Mrs. Lancia is survived by her husband, Bert of Raleigh, two sons, Robert of Elgin, Ill. and Richard of Cary, N.C., a sister Mary Menges of Berlin, sister-in-law Theresa Lancia of Raleigh and grandchildren Neil and Alexander Lancia of Cary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. H.W. Menges of Berlin. Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., April 13 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Raleigh. Family will receive friends in the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in memory of Ruth Lancia to the Palliative Care Unit, REX Healthcare Foundation Office, Suite 316, 2500 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27607.
