Born April 10, 1914 in Stonycreek Twp., son of Norman and Edna (Engle) Landis. Preceded in death by parents, brother William, and sister Jean Elizabeth "Betty" Croner. Survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Margaret "Peg" Ayers, and these children: Mrs. Randy (Nancy) Hay, Somerset, Mrs. Winfred (Pat) Johnson, Meyersdale, and James Richard, Berlin; and grandchildren, Michael Lepley, Jennifer and Christy Hay. Brother of Robert E. Landis, Berlin; Hazel E. Knepper, Shanksville; and Norman A. Landis Jr., Fort Myers, Fla. A 1931 graduate of Berlin High School and graduated from mechanics school in Pittsburgh. Served as a mechanic in U.S. Army 774th Tank Destroyer Battalion during World War II. Owned and operated Broadway Motors 1947-1955, Landis & Lafferty Chevrolet 1955-1967, and Landis Auto Service 1968-1999, all in Berlin. Member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin. Charter and 50-year member of Berlin Lions Club, having received the Melvin Jones Award. A 50-year member of Berlin Volunteer Fire Dept. Charter member of Berlin V.F.W., and member of the Last Man's Club. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday. Rev. Melvin A. Kirk Jr. and Jennifer Hay officiating.
