Landis, 81, Shanksville, died April 3, 1988, at Somerset Community Hospital. Born Jan. 28, 1907 in Stonycreek Township, son of Jefferson and Emma (Weigle) Landis. Preceded in death by parents; son, Paul; grandsons, Dean and Daniel; brothers, Morris, Harry, George, Lewis, and John; and sisters, Grace Mowry, Ruth Smith, and Bessie. Survived by wife of 58 years, the former Irene Hemminger, and these children: Robert E., married to the former Glenda Glessner, Berlin RD 1; William, Nahant, Mass.; Karl, married to the former Deanna Sheeler, Somerset; and Mrs. Barry (Jane) Young, Stoystown RD 3; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Brother of Leroy, married to the former Blanche Hillegass, Friedens RD 2, and Mrs. Merle (Nannie) Long, Friedens RD 1. Former building contractor, mason, craftsman, gunsmith, blacksmith and he ran a small appliance shop. Former adult evening instructor at Somerset County Vo-Tech. Member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Shanksville, where he served on the council. Member of Mountain Field and Stream Club, Somerset Lodge 358 F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory, and Jaffa Shrine, Altoona. Former member of Shanksville-Stonycreek school board and a demonstrator for Somerset Historical Society. Family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. Monday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. Horst H. Bandle. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
