He served with Co. C, 110th Infantry Regiment of the 28th Division, in the First World War, suffering wounds in battle, which necessitated the amputation of a leg. He was an active member of the West View Post of veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and was employed in the Common Pleas Court of Allegheny County, as a tipstaff since 1931. Mr. Landis served as a member and secretary of Draft Board No. 14 of Allegheny County, from its organization in October, 1940, until July of 1942, when he resigned because of ill health. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lucy M. Ankley Landis, his mother, Mrs. Mary Landis of Meyersdale; two sons, Pvt. William and Samuel W., and a daughter, Lois Jean; three brothers, Edison, W. Clyde and Garman, all of Detroit, Mich.; and a sister, Mrs. Viola Merrbach of Meyersdale, Pa. Funeral services were held in First Presbyterian Church, West View, on Friday, July 27. Mr. Landis was held in high esteem by his comrades of World War I, especially by the surviving members of Capt. W. C. Truxal's Company C, 110th Inf., of Somerset County.
