Lape, a veteran of the Civil War, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Putman, at Acosta, on the afternoon of Friday, March 21, at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 29 days. He was born in Somerset County, where he lived the most part of his long and well-spent life doing to others as he would be done by. The date of his birth was November 22, 1840. When a young man he married Catherine Younkin who passed away eleven years ago. There are seven children - two sons and five daughters - surviving. The surviving children are W. L. Lape and J. F. Lape, South Connellsville; Mrs. Emanuel Baker, Bridgeport, Pa.; Mrs. Fay Dills, Scottdale; Mrs. W. B. Putman, Casselman, and Mrs. Richard Thomas and Mrs. J. A. Putman, Acosta, his death taking place at the home of the latter where he lived for the last ten years. He is also survived by 35 grandchildren and 39 great- grandchildren. Mr. Lape was a member of Co. K, of the 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He enlisted in 1864 and served until the end of the war. He was a member of the United Brethren Church. He was a sincere Christian, being noted in the communities where he lived for his sincere piety; he not only loved the Lord, but also his fellowmen, and treated all with justice and Christian charity. The funeral took place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, with short services at the Putman home, Rev. Hayes pastor of the Acosta Church, officiating. The funeral services were concluded at the Mount Zion Church of the United Brethren, where Rev. C. W. Raley, pastor of the Evangelical Church of Rockwood, officiated. The pallbearers, all grandsons of the deceased veteran, were Robert Putman, John Baker, Christian Lape, William Thomas, Homer Dills and Charles Trout. Interment in Mount Zion cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by residents of Acosta and Casselman, and the surrounding country. Among those who came from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Baker, Bridgeport, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Fay Dills and son, Homer Dills, and John Baker, of Scottdale; Mr. and Mrs. Al Thurston and Harry Hays, Mount Pleasant; Mr. and Mrs. J. F. May and children, Hazel, Frank, Ernest and Junior, Confluence; W. L. Lape and children, Elbert and Jean, and J. F. Lape, South Connellsville; Christian Lape, Gray's Landing, Pa.; Charles Lape, Listie; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Trout and W. B. Trout, Casselman. The funeral arrangements were in charge of Undertaker L.
