Lape Sr., 84, Maple Mountain Manor, Berlin, formerly of Johnstown RD 7, died April 30, 1980, in Berlin. He was born Oct. 4, 1895, in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, son of John and Mary (Young) Lape. He was preceded in death by parents; wife, former Catherine E. Schmidt, who died January 20, 1980; and brother, Fred. He is survived by these children: Helen, wife of Vincent Meder, Independence, Mo.; Mary, wife of William Mishler, Johnstown RD 7; Bertha, wife of Fred Hockins, Farmingdale, N.J.; James Jr., married to former Eileen Knapp, Denver, Colo.; and foster daughter, Claudia Gindlesperger, Hollsopple RD 2; also 15 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of World War I. Friends were received at George E. Mason Funeral Home, Davidsville, where services were held with the Rev. C. Edward West. Interment, Stahl Mennonite Cemetery.
