Born July 6, 1917, in Somerset, he is the son of Harry McKinley and Edna Mildred (Landis) Lape. Preceded in death by parents, first wife, Hazel Alverta (Pyle), who died Dec. 28, 1977, and son Jay Lape. Survived by wife, the former Eva Rebecca Shaffer, to whom he was married 17 years; children Ray Lape Jr., Jennerstown; Mrs. Evelyn Swank, Cortland, Ohio; Mrs. Richard (Wilma) Miller, Columbus, Ohio; Dale Lape, married to the former Bonnie Lape, Friedens; stepdaughter Mrs. Richard (JoAnn) Critchfield, Somerset; stepson Robert Zearfoss and wife Kaye, Blairsville; 18 grandchildren; two step grandchildren, Rebecca and James Critchfield; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and daughter-in-law Dorothy Lape, Somerset. Retired coal miner, stone mason and electrician for Seven Springs Resort and enjoyed CB radios. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, where a service will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Gerald E. Deffenbaugh officiating.
