Lavan, 76, of Somerset, died Aug. 23, 1993, at Conemaugh Hospital, Johnstown. Born Nov. 28, 1916, in Jefferson Township. Son of the late David F. and Jennie Catherine (Friedline) Lavan. Also preceded in death by a son, Frank Lavan Jr., and a brother, Harry F. Lavan. Survived by his wife, the former Pauline Marie Snearly, to whom he was married for 45 years; a daughter, Mrs. Larry P. (Jennie) Hoffman, Lebo, Kan.; three grandchildren: Mrs. Brian (Kimberly) Thompson, Olathe, Kan., and Keith A. Hoffman and Kristine A. Hoffman, both of Lebo, Kan. Two great-grandchildren, Derek Scott Thompson and Kylyn Nikol Thompson. Brother of Mrs. Ernest (Maude) Brown, Somerset RD 5, and Mrs. Donald (Leora) Boyts, Warren, Ohio. Member of the Somerset Alliance Church, VFW Post 554, FOE Aerie 1801 and the Uniontown Local of International Brotherhood of Teamsters. U.S. Army veteran of World War II. A retired truck driver for Eastern Freight Lines and L.J. Luteri and retired from New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company with 26 years service. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Somerset Alliance Church, the Rev. Dr. Melvin E. Vance officiating. Interment, Lavansville Cemetery. There will be viewing at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
